Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Ámár maneri gopál
Ańute ańute ácho
Bhúmáte vishál

Kata juger sádhaná mor
Anuráge smita phulad́or
Bhávávege cittacakor
Tomár tare hay je uttál

Cáoni kichu káro káche
Mańir khani tomár áche
Ashani taŕit májhe
Jege ácho anantakál

The Gopal of my psyche,
You're in each and every molecule,
Gargantuan in plurality.

My holy endeavor of many ages,
With affection, smiling is its floral thread,
The mind's partridge,[nb 2] become fervent,
For Your sake, it's overflowing.

I wanted no other close by;
Yours is the jewel-mine.
Lightning and thunderbolt inside,
Woke for endless time, You are there.

Notes

  1. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
  2. ^ The chukor, also known as the red-legged or Himalayan partridge or curlew or bartavelle, is the national bird of Iraq and Pakistan. References to it date back to the Rg Veda. The chukor is reputed to gaze at the moon constantly and is hence said to be in love with the moon or to drink moonlight. In Indian mythology, the chukor often symbolizes intense love, sometimes unrequited.
