Lyrics

Roman script[nb 1] Bengali script Translation

Ná jániyá bhálo besechi
Bese dekhi jáná náhi jáy
Madhur hásir mohana báṋshi
Áŕále tháke se shyámaráy

Bháve je jamuná ujánete dháy
Táre bhule shyáma jáy dvárakáy
Nanda jashodá dilo snehasudhá
Táder páneo náhi tákáy

Je gopiká dilo paráńer madhu
Tádero tyajilo se jyotsná vidhu
Cakita harińii prekśańá shudhu
Káṋdiyá káṋdiyá kál kát́áy

Unknowingly, I've held dear;
Having loved I see that knowing doesn't thrive.
Sweet smile's charming pipe of reed,
Behind curtain that Dark Prince[nb 2] abides.

From friendship, the Jamuna, upstream it hies;
Forgetting it, to Dvaraka Shyama retires.
Nanda and Jashoda gave tender ambrosia,
But even toward them He does not cast His eyes.

The milkmaids gave their heart's sweetness,
But the Self-lit Moon, He abandoned also them.
The doe just watching, she was startled;
Crying and crying, the time goes by.
