Lyrics

Roman script[nb 2] Bengali script Translation

Tomákei bhálobesechi
Tomári vrater májhe
Thákbo beṋce
Sthir karechi

Nishiithe ámár práńe diipak jvale
Prabháte shońite mor álo jhale
Jiivaner uddámatáy jhalamale
E stabak tomár háte tule diyechi

Bhálobáso ná báso tumi bhálo
Nirásháy áṋdháre mor áshá d́hálo
Álote púrńa tumi saráo kálo
Tomátei saḿvedaná háriye phelechi

I have loved You alone.
Amid just Your pious rites,
Meanwhile I will stay alive.
This have I resolved.

At midnight in my heart blazes a light;
At sunrise in my blood its luster shines.
It glistens in defiance of life;
This nosegay in Your hand I have bestowed.

Whether or not You love, You are propitious;
On my gloom and despair, hope You pour.
Full of light, You lay aside ebony color;
For You only I've forsaken sense of sorrow.

Notes

  1. ^ In the earliest publication (with original notation), the order of Songs 2930 and 2931 is reversed. Evidence suggests that this might have been a mistake.
  2. ^ For details on the notation, see Roman Bengali transliteration.
